Library Orientation Research Skills Pre-Assessment 1

Please complete the following 25 question pre-assessment of your research skills. This is NOT a test. Do you best -- read each question, consider the answer options, and make a choice and move on. Do not slave over this. Should take 15-20 min at most.
When you are finished, please take a screenshot of the last page (print screen button for PCs (turn into an jpeg or paste into a word doc & save), ans Command+Shift+3 for Macs; submit this to your teacher. Please come to class with the question from the survey you were the most unsure about.

Step 1

To take the TRAILS pre-assessment you need a 4 digit code - please use this link to claim your four digit code (given to you in class on a strip of paper)

Orientation SCAVENGER HUNT

In groups no larger than three, work to complete the following questions designed to build your familiarity with the library and the resources it offers. If at any point you get stuck, please raise you hand. You will have to work QUICKLY and EFFICIENTLY to complete this. Thank you!

    Library Orientation SCAVENGER HUNT

    Ask Ms. Brockman
In some cases, like with Ebsco, it will be both your login AND your password
You're looking for websites that generate citations for you or give you examples to model.
(If there is a subject you would like to see covered that is not, please submit a suggestion in the "other" option)
You do not HAVE to answer this one; we want real suggestions only :)
You will use this same topic throughout this survey today; it may have been assigned to you, otherwise you may self select.
HINT: you may want to use the "Browse Topics" tab to find "portals" rather than jus the search window. The URLS you will need to copy do NOT come from the web browser bar, you need to copy them from the "BOOKMARK" option
Without taking too long on this, please be thoughtful and critical. (Consider the time it took in each individual search to find something usable...) The "CRAAP" test is described on the "Source Evaluation" page that drops down from the "RESEARCH" tab.
The library catalog is a desktop icon on every library desktop computer; it can also be found at pv.follettdestiny.com (then select our school).
GO FIND this actual book and take a picture of the index.
    Max file size: 20MB
This image can be uploaded, or emailed to brockmana@pvpusd.net, or tweeted or instagrammed to @PVHS_Library (there are more image uploads to come, you can email them all in one bulk email, or (if you have time) collage them together on your device and tweet or instagram them)
GO FIND this actual book and take a picture of the index (or if no index, the entry page for a relevant entry, i.e. "Dust Bowl")
    Max file size: 20MB
This image can be uploaded, or emailed to brockmana@pvpusd.net, or tweeted or instagrammed to @PVHS_Library (there are more image uploads to come, you can email them all in one bulk email, or (if you have time) collage them together on your device and tweet or instagram them)
    Max file size: 20MB
This image can be uploaded, or emailed to brockmana@pvpusd.net, or tweeted or instagrammed to @PVHS_Library (there are other image uploads in this scavenger hunt, you can email them all in one bulk email, or (if you have time) collage them together on your device and tweet or instagram them)
(It is very important that you complete this survey, but if you don't know something that's all right. This is a PRE assessment to see where you are right now with your research skills; if there's something you don't know, take a best guess and move on. Do your best, but DO NOT LABOR over this. Should not take more than 15-20 minutes.) THANK YOU!!! [Nothing to submit below]
